Cosmetic Humectants

Cosmetic Humectants

Ecovia PGA-based biopolymers provide best-in-class hydration when formulated into cosmetic moisturizers. They bind up to 1,000 times their weight in water and form a thin, elastic film to reduce water loss. This means they not only help prevent dryness and irritation but smooth skin texture and the look of fine lines.

A recent Stratum Corneum Hydration study comparing PGA- to traditional, Hyaluronic Acid-based moisturizers over an 8-hour timeframe found that the former performed better at every stage.

All Ecovia moisturizing polymers are produced from vegetable-based, USDA-compliant feedstocks and are 100% natural and non-GMO. You’re assured of a 100% biobased, biodegradable, cruelty-free product that yields no microplastics.

In its linear form PGA provides top of the line capture and retention of moisture for skin care formulation. Used as a humectant, PGA is in many products today added as a replacement or synergistic ingredient to Hyaluronic Acid. Data shows azuraBase can retain moisture at a comparable or better rate over a 7 hour period as well as capture moisture as good as or better than hyaluronic acid over a 6 hour period.

Most importantly PGA performs its humectant functions while leaving a smooth silky skin feel with out the tackiness other moisture retaining polymer can sometimes have. Using new production methods along with specifically selected high productivity non- GMO strains of soil isolated bacteria, Ecovia’s azuraBase is the best low cost biobased material for humectant applications.
